Fertility issues

Have any of you learned to use FAM/NFP - fertility awareness methods? If you know about it, how successful have you been, and can you share some tips and advice?

I've read plenty about it, but am not confident I can identify my fertile days. Part of pinpointing is temperature taking, but you must have a basal thermometer. Does a talking basal thermometer even exist?

I'm also incredibly discouraged, reading about the dozens of options for ovulation predictor tests, pregnancy tests, available to everyone else, but not blind women, because we can't read them! (This is not news to me, it's only upsetting to realize the vast array of choices other women have that are off limits.) There are test strips, and even little computers that give you all sorts of information. Google Ladycomp, or Ovacue, for example. It sounds wonderfully helpful, but doesn't have speech. I even emailed the company to check, just in case, but no such luck. The person who replied to my email said mine wasn't the first such inquiry she'd received, and that maybe my partner could read the device. I happen not to have a sighted partner, so that's out. I wonder how many inquiries the makers of these products would need before they recognize that this extra cue would be valuable to potential customers. If not speech, perhaps other auditory clues, beeps, or something...anything. If speech can be put into children's toys, why not testing devices for something like this?

So I wonder if anyone's found a solution.

Thoughts? Commiseration rants?

Sorry if I posted this in the wrong place--I wasn't sure. I should have titled it Fertility Detection Issues, I guess.

Whether I have fertility problems is problems is another topic!

Same here. I'm lucky enough to have sighted assistance, but I refuse to waist tons of money. Here is a few things I know of...I keep a record on my computer of my cycle, and try to mark the days 18 to 10 from the beginning of my next cycle...More difficult if your irregular. However, there is medicine your doctor can put you on that can help regulate...It's a hormone you take if your starting to run over the exceptable length of cycle and it can help teach your body the right way...Depending on your probs. Hmm, without knowing the problem I'm not coming up with much more...Soffice to say, I'm there with you to a degree...I haven't used birth control for a few years, and may have to use fertility drugs do to my probs...But, we'll see...

i don't know how to discuss this in a sensitive and caring way. hope i don't gross anyone out.

there is a natural planning method where the mucous in the vagina is touched and tested. when it is a certain consistency ovulation is occurring. this is something you might want to bring up with your obgyn or phertility specialist. it is kind of old fashioned, but it does work. I won't go in to any more details, becaus it has been a long time and I don't remember the entire process.

You can actually find out about that on the web...I remember reading about that a little while back. Hmm, maybe I'll try and look it up because I've forgotten the exact process as well...I know the librication changes just before/at/after ovilation, but I've forgotten exactly when and how it changes...Hmm, if I can find a link to it, I'll be glad to post it here.

I know it gets milky looking in color, but that doesn't help any of us, as far as the texture, or the thickness, i'm not sure.

Ok, here is the link to a WebMD article on this very subject. :) I've done the link to page 2 because page 1 only discusses why you should chart and taking the temp...But, the second page talks about the changes in fluids...So, here it is. HTH.

WebMD Article, p2

Let me know if you need/want other information. I don't mind looking it up since it's a subject that interests me as well. :) Good luck.

TheBadInfluence, thank you so much for your sympathy. And you have mine. I am sorry to hear that you've had to deal with this, too.

Catleya, thank you for digging up the link! If you find any more (or if I do, as I will be doing a little searching, myself) please post it, or where to find it.

I guess we'd have to pay attention to the quality of the cm and cervix texture and position. That's what confuses me, the cervix position. It seems so clear cut when you read about it, but in reality... but I will persist.
